May 7, 2023 - Fly to Cape May for Breakfast

We were heading for Cape May this morning.  Tom even hauled out his Tundra-Tire equipped Maule to join us.

Gadget feels the need to test his smoke when exiting the ramp.

Chip in the RV-8 and Ron in the RV-12 eat smoke.

Winging our way east over the Eastern Shore.  With his new three-blade prop, Gadget's RV-7 and my RV-7 now have identical speed.  The narrow-bodied RV-8 has a few knots on both of us.

Chip gets a shot of Gadget and me.

Feet wet over the Delaware Bay.

Approaching Cape May airport.

Safe on deck.  Let's get some breakfast!

The Flight Deck Cafe is popular on a Sunday morning so we had to wait about 45 minutes.  But the wait was worth it.  Look at all the happy faces.

The mighty Maule taxiis out.

Ron's new (used) RV-12.  There are now eight flying RVs (five regular and 3 light sport) at Essex Skypark with an RV-10 under construction.

The Maule over Delaware Bay.

I head for the south Jersey marsh.

Descending.

Here we go!  You can see green shoots in the brown.  In a few weeks, the entire marsh should be bright green.

Cruising.

Now heading across the Delaware River at 500 feet.

Some marsh and creeks on the east side of the eastern shore.

I spotted someone low over the Chester River.

Who could it be?

Later that afternoon, Chip and Chuck grilled burgers and dogs in Chip's hangar.  We all ate ... again.

Dave taxiis by in the stripped-down RV-4.  It hasn't flown in 2 1/2 years!  Good to see it flying!
